Yellow Ipe: what it’s for and how to use it

It is a medicinal plant, also known as Pau d’Arco, its trunk is solid, can reach 25 meters high and has beautiful yellow flowers with greenish reflections, which can be found from the Amazon, to the northeast, in Sao Paulo.

Its scientific name is Tabebuia serratifolia and is also known as ipe, ipe-do-closed, ipe-egg-of-macuco, ipe-brown, ipe-tabac, ipe-grape, pau d?Arch, pau-d? Yellow arch-puva, yellow eyes, opaque and large tail.

This medicinal plant can be purchased in health food stores and some pharmacies.

Ipo-Amarelo has been commonly used to treat anemia, tonsillitis, urinary tract infection, bronchitis, thrush, prostate infection, myoma, ovarian cyst, as well as to facilitate healing of internal and external wounds.

Ip-Amarelo may be indicated in these situations as it contains substances such as saponins, triterpenes and antioxidants that give it anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, immunostimulant, antiviral and antibiotic properties.

Due to its anti-tumor activity, Ip-Amarelo has been studied for the treatment of cancer, but more scientific studies are needed to demonstrate its efficacy and safety, and should not be consumed freely as it can reduce the effect of chemotherapy, aggravating the disease.

Ipo-Amarelo has a high toxicity and side effects include hives, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Ip-Amarelo is indicated in pregnant women, during lactation and during cancer treatment.
