What is bicorn uterus?
The bicorn uterus is a congenital abnormality in which the uterus, usually in the form of a pear, has an abnormal morphology, in which there is a membrane that divides it into two parts, which can cause a total or partial division.

The bicorn uterus usually causes no symptoms and is often only discovered during an ultrasound, as early as adulthood. However, some women may experience discomfort during ovulation, abdominal pain, pain during intimate contact, or irregular periods.
Many women with bicorn uterus have a normal sex life and also have unwell pregnancies and births, but in some cases this malformation of the uterus can lead to infertility, miscarriage, premature birth of the baby or kidney abnormalities.

People with bicorn uterus have already been born with this problem because malformation still occurs during pregnancy. It is unclear why this abnormality occurs, but it is believed to be an inherited disease.
A bicorn uterus usually does not affect fertility, but in some cases it can lead to miscarriage or premature delivery, due to the small size of the uterus or the onset of irregular uterine contractions.
In addition, several studies show that women with bicorn uterus are 4 times more likely to have a malformation baby and that’s why it’s very important to have regular checkups during pregnancy and to keep an eye on any unusual signs. These pregnancies are usually treated as high-risk pregnancies and delivery is most likely by cesarean section.
