Propioception for shoulder recovery

Propioception exercises accelerate recovery from shoulder joint injuries, ligaments, muscles or tendons because they help the body adapt to the affected limb, avoiding unnecessary effort during daily activities, such as moving the arm, picking things up, or cleaning the house, for example.

Normally, shoulder propioception exercises should be done daily for 1 to 6 months, until you can do the exercises without difficulty or until your orthopedist or physical therapist recommends it.

  • Shoulder propioception is used not only in the recovery of sports injuries such as stroke.
  • Dislocation or bursitis.
  • But in the recovery of orthopedic surgeries or in simpler lesions.
  • Such as shoulder tendinitis.
  • For example.

Some propioception exercises used in shoulder recovery include

Stay in the position of four supports as shown in Figure 1, then raise your arm without hurting yourself, close your eyes and hold the position for 30 seconds, repeating 3 times;

Stand in front of a wall and with a tennis ball in your affected shoulder hand.Then lift one foot and hold the balance, while throwing the ball against the wall 20 times.Repeat 4 times and change your breathing each time;

Hold and hold a football against a wall, with the shoulder arm affected, as shown in Figure 2, then turn with the ball, avoiding bending the arm, for 30 seconds and repeating 3 times.

These exercises should, as far as possible, be guided by a physical therapist to adapt the exercise to the specific injury and adapt to the evolutionary phase of recovery, thus increasing the results.
