Aciclovir which is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by herpes zoster, better known as shingles, chickenpox-zone virus, infections caused by the herpes simplex virus of the skin and mucous membranes, including initial and recurrent genital herpes.
In addition, it is also used to treat herpetic meningoencephalitis and cytomegalovirus infections.
Registration should be established by the doctor, so it varies depending on the virus to be treated, if the individual is involved in immunocompromised and presentation of the drug.
In infants, infants and the elderly, the dosage should be adjusted according to the patient’s weight and health status.
The cream is used to treat skin infections, caused by the herpes simplex virus, including genital and cold sores, if application is recommended 5 times a day, every 4 hours, omitting the night dose.
Treatment of cold sores should be done for at least 4 days, in case of genital herpes should be maintained for 5 days. If symptoms persist and you see no improvement, you should extend treatment for an additional 5 days. If the injury persists for 10 days, the use of the medicine should be discontinued and the doctor consulted.
Ophthalmic ointment with aciclovir is indicated for the treatment of keratitis, an inflammation of the cornea caused by herpes simplex virus infection.
Before using the ointment, you should thoroughly wash it and apply the ointment into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye, at intervals of approximately 4 hours. After observing the healing process, you should continue to apply the ointment for at least 3 days.
Aciclovir is an active substance that works by blocking the multiplication mechanism of herpes simplex viruses, shingles chickenpox, Epstein-Barr and cytomegalovirus, preventing new cells from multiplying and infecting.
Aciclovir should not be used by people allergic to any of the ingredients of the formula, it is not recommended in pregnant and lactating women, as it should only be used on prescription.
Contact lenses should not be used during treatment with an ophthalmic ointment.
Some common side effects that may occur during treatment with aciclovir include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain, diet and flaking, rashes that can interfere with sun exposure, feeling tired and afraid.
In some cases, the cream can cause severe burns, mild loss, peeling of the skin and diet.
Ophthalmic ointment can cause corneal lesions, local irritation, conjunctivitis and a painful sensation after application, as it is mild and transient.
